Fits: Yamaha GP1200R, XLT1200, GP1300R Power Valve Motor - 66V/60T.
Kit includes 3 clips and 2 couplers.
The older style OEM Yamaha power valves (-02 ) used on all Yamaha GP800R, GP1200R, XLL1200, and XLT1200 up to mid 2001 had two problems.
The first issue was that there were no solid stops to keep the valve from dropping into the piston. This problem is more common than people think. The only way to tell if this has happened is to remove the covers and measure how far the valve drops down when fully closed. To measure, place a straight edge across the cover surface and measure down to the top of the stem. If this measurement is over .43" (11mm), then the stops have worn and allowed the valve to rub the piston. You can still install the WaveEater Clips to keep further damage from happening, but realize that for every fraction of an inch you measure over .43" means that the bottom of the valve has been eaten by the piston that amount.
The second issue, as with all versions of the Yamaha powervalve, the pin slides out. The sides on the WaveEater Clips retain the pin in place.
Up until the design of these clips, there was no option except to replace all the pre 2002 valves. Although other manufactures make the aftermarket arms that hold the pins in place they do not incorporate a down stop needed for these powervalves.
The next version, ( -03) solved the problem of the valve dropping down too low, but still suffered from the big problem of the pin sliding out. The WaveEater clips work on these valves also to keep the pins in place.
Instructions:
1. To remove the original couplers, pull the black plastic clip off the power valve shaft. We will not use the black clip when installing WaveEater couplers.
2. Push the coupler forward and pull up and off.
3. Install the new WaveEater CouplerSlide on the small end of the spring, then the stainless washer. The washer keeps the slotted shaft from spreading apart. Push the washer and spring on as far as it will go. Next, angle the coupler and slide on the flat end of the coupler over the long slot in the power valve shaft.
4. Line up the pin with the mating shaft and slide the WaveEater Coupler back into place. This will be a very tight fit and may take a little force to lock into place. The spring holds it on.
NOTE: WaveEater Clips are intended for the OEM-style powervalve and do not fit the aftermarket R&D Powervalves.
